Harriett Tubman Guild Inc. President Lucille Prater-Holliday

Lucille Prater-Holliday is a community leader and volunteer with a history of fighting for low[1]and moderate-income families, and our homeless population. The challenges that she has faced and overcome throughout her life have led her to a career of advocating for social and economic justice. She possesses an extensive background working in a variety of capacities in social service organizations.

Ms. Prater-Holliday spent her formative years in Homewood, where she currently resides, and is a proud Westinghouse High School Alumni. In response to the economic and social disparities among African-American women, Ms. Prater-Holliday founded the Black Women’s Empowerment Institute (BWEI) in 2007, to empower African-American women to be catalysts for change in their own lives, as well as the lives of others.

Ms. Prater-Holliday is a Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce “Athena Award Finalist” (2015), and a recipient of The New Pittsburgh Courier “Women of Excellence Award” (2016), the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh Tribute to Women “Leadership Award for Civic and Community Service” (2014), Champion Enterprises “Celebration of Women Community Champions Award” (2013), Action United’s “Outstanding Organizational Leadership Award” (2013), Classic Events “Political Activist Award” (2012), and Champion Enterprises and Five Starr Corporation’s “Western Pennsylvania Outstanding Women Award” (2011).
